Goodbye, First Grade!

Yesterday was Emmalee's last day of first grade. When I asked her if she was glad to be done with school, she said no, she was going to miss her teacher and wished that she didn't have to have a summer vacation. I just smiled, and knew I had to write that down to remind her years from now when she is counting down the days to summer vacation and dreading the day she has to go back to school. For now, I'll take it that she loves school so much!
She brought home a perfect report card - the following are her teacher's comments, written on the back of her report card: "Emmalee has had a successful year in grade one. She continues to be a motivated learner and a caring friend. Emmalee is able to read challenging texts with very good comprehension. She enjoys writing and is able to organize her written pieces well to reflect the skills and concepts taught. Emmalee demonstrates a satisfactory understanding of early mathematical concepts and is able to apply these concepts independently. It's been a pleasure having Emmalee in my class and I wish her a great second grade year." Needless to say, we are very proud of Emmalee! It's hard to believe she will be in 2nd grade in just a couple of months!
Her friend Carly had a last day of school party in the afternoon. They went all out - there were 2 inflatable water slides, an inflatable bounce house, a trampoline, and their personal playscape. Plus lots of snacks and cake and icecream! Micah and Lily and I stayed too - and Micah had a great time playing! Next week is Summer Bible Camp at church, and the following week Emmalee starts Cinderella for the entire month of July.

Micah is loving having his playmate home all day today - he and Em have been acting absolutely wacko! I hope I can make it through the summer!

Lily has one of her top front teeth coming through and has been gnawing on everything she can get into her mouth! She is crawling EVERYWHERE and pulling herself up to standing. It's only a matter of time before she's cruising all over. And it's very hard to believe we will celebrate her 1st birthday next month - where did the year go?!

Happy Summer to you all!
