It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The tree is up, the lights are on the house, the interior is as decorated as it's going to get, the mistletoe scented candles are burning - yay! Today I am going into Emmalee's school to her holiday party to help out - that ought to be fun! Tomorrow we are anticipating a huge snowstorm - I wonder if the schools will be proactive and cancel for the day, or have an early dismissal? It's supposed to start sometime in the late morning. Micah and Lily and I are supposed to be going to Micah's playgroup's holiday party in the morning, but we will have to wait and see what the weather does. Steve has his company holiday party tonight in Boston - dinner and a hotel room - fun times! My work Christmas party is Monday night. All these festivities - so much fun!
Some sad news - Emmalee's best friend Quinn is moving to Kentucky on Saturday. It was a very quick, unexpected move. She came home from school on Monday crying and said "Quinn is moving this week to Kentucky". I was thinking "What?" Who moves a week before Christmas - with no warning!? I didn't even know they were looking to move at all! So I called Jenn, Quinn's mother, and asked what is going on. "We're moving to Kentucky - on Saturday morning". Jenn's family lives out there. Mike, Jenn's husband, has been out of work, so there was nothing really holding them here in CT, and in the course of 4 days, started looking, found, and bought a house out there. Jenn said Quinn is a mess. Emmalee is a mess. We didn't know Quinn before this year, but on the first day of school Emmalee came home asking for a playdate with her new best friend. They live right around the corner from us, and the girls have spent several afternoons playing either here or there, having sleepovers, and doing all kinds of fun stuff together. Em's teacher told me they are inseparable even at school too. I know Em will recover from it, but I have a feeling this is going to be hard for a while. They will keep in touch, though.
On a lighter note, we all went out Christmas shopping on Tuesday night. We were at Target and Em had wandered into a different aisle. I asked "Where's Emmalee?" (to no one in particular), to which Micah responded, "How should I know? I'm not the mom, you are!" What a wise-guy he is!
