Bright and early yesterday morning, the kids and I got up and drove up to Massachusetts, to beautiful Brant Rock Beach in Marshfield, where my friend Bonnie lives. When we got there, we decided to walk to the beach (how nice is that - walk to the beach!?) and let the kids run around and splash in the water for a while, until Bonnie's daughter, Grace came home from school. So, armed with our cameras, Bonnie and I and
Micah, Emmalee, Lily, and Bonnie's other daughter Charlotte, who is Micah's age, ventured off on the quick 10 minute walk to a small, beautiful, private beach. The kids had a blast. They splashed their feet in the FREEZING water, climbed on the rocks, ran on the sand, threw rocks and seaweed into the water, and then, the most AMAZING thing happened...
Bonnie and I were chatting when Emmalee and Charlotte came running over to us and exclaimed, "you HAVE to come se
e this!" Micah was standing on the rock jetty, looking down at a rock. Emmalee prepped us on the way, saying, "I think a seagull just laid an egg, or something." We all climbed up and Emmalee points at this puddle of jiggly white mass. "The seagull was on this rock, and when we climbed up and scared it, this stuff came out of it before it flew away! Is it an egg or a baby seagull?" Bonnie and I stood there, looking at it, and I said "Emmalee, that's
bird poop!"
And now the quote of the day:
"But Mom, poop doesn't move!"
Well, a white puddle/pile of poop on a rock in the wind DOES move...
The kids were disappointed.
The rest of the day was wonderful! It was so nice to catch up with Bonnie and spend time with her girls - our kids got along beautifully! And later in the afternoon, I met up with my friend Shari and her son Thomas and daughter Anna Mae at the mall. We had a great time too - chatting and shopping and browsing and having dinner at our old college mall. At the end of the day, Emmalee said, "I wish we still lived here.", even though we moved when she was 1 and she doesn't even remember living there. As we drove home I thought to myself, "Yeah, me too". It was so nice to spend a day with a couple of my closest friends and their children. Thank you, Bonnie and Shari, for opening your day for us.
