Micah's "Thing"

When Emmalee was little(r), she loved rocks. She had a huge rock collection, which finally I made her keep outdoors, in a little pile outside of our front door. When we moved from our condo to our house, the rocks came too. She would tell me, "Rocks are my thing". They aren't her "thing" so much anymore - she has moved on to Hannah Montana and lip gloss.

Yesterday, Micah and Gramma and I were outside in the front yard. Micah loves to turn over the rocks that encircle our garden areas and see what is under them. He especially likes to look for rocks that have a ton of ants under them, and watch them scurry around and move their eggs back into the holes. He was funny yesterday; he flipped some rocks that had a few ants underneath and was like "cool, ants!", and then he flipped a rock with hundreds of ants under it, and exclaimed "Totally ants!" From then on, each rock he flipped that had a bunch of ants under it, he would say "totally ants!". Then he said to me, "Ants are my thing".

Gramma thinks an ant farm is in store for him for Christmas... I agree. Totally Ants!

One more thing - he and Gramma were talking about ants this morning, and it was raining outside. They were talking about the ant holes and tunnels that are under the rocks, and about how they move the eggs into the holes. She asked him what were in the eggs and he said "Baby ants". Gramma then asked him, "what do the ants do when it rains?" Micah thought for a minute; we were thinking he would say they go into their tunnels; and then he said "they get wet!"
