Steve took the day off of work yesterday and we brought the kids to Rocky Neck Beach for the afternoon. They had a great time. Even Lily, who crawled all over the sand and the beach chairs and amused herself! Micah and Emmalee couldn't get enough of being in the water. The ocean at Rocky Neck is Long Island Sound, and the water is a bit warmer than the "real" ocean, and there are not really waves, but ripples. And, the coolest part is that you can walk out 300 feet or more and the water is only waist high (on an adult my size)! What the kids did NOT like is the ocean life - the few random jellyfish, the crabs in the water that bury themselves in the sand and move away from you really fast when you get near one (Emmalee nearly hyperventilated when we were walking in the water together and saw one - after that, she was paranoid that everything in the sand in the water was a crab, just waiting for her to walk by so it could reach out and pinch her). Lily LOVED the water (and drank her fair share of it, too!) - her favorite thing was when we would hold her hands and pull her through the water - she laughed and lau
ghed. She also loved floating on her back. Emmalee enjoyed drawing pictures in the sand. Steve dug a hole and buried Micah up to his neck so only his head was out - I'm posting a picture of that, because it is the most hilarious thing. Other people on the beach must have thought we were freaks, but once they saw just his little head sticking out of the sand, they laughed at it too! We were wishing we had 3 Santa hats so we could bury all 3 kids and put the hats on them and use it as our Christmas picture - would have been classic! All in all, it was a perfect day weather-wise, and we all enjoyed ourselves on one of the last days of summer vacation.

the pictures you sent via snapfish were awesome. how cute is lily in her beach chair!?! glad you were able to have a fun family day....can't believe school and fall are just around the corner.:(
looks like fun! good you could have a family day before getting back into school! Is Em ready for 2nd grade? Rafe does not seem at all nervous... Maggie and i investigated her school and are both feeling good about it~
love the pic of micah with his head in the sand - you're right, a santa hat photo of all 3 would've been cute! looks like a great beach and makes me miss the ocean a bit (but like Emmy, I am a bit squeamish about some of the creatures...).
